Transitional Living Program & Housing Initiative

Every year, teenagers in foster care approach adulthood with uncertainty, limited support, and overwhelming odds. When they turn 18, many step out into the world without stable housing, guidance, or the essential life-skills needed to navigate adulthood. National statistics paint a heartbreaking picture: nearly 20% become instantly homeless, 1 in 4 will be trafficked within 12–18 months, and over 50% struggle with substance abuse, often as a response to trauma and lack of support.

At Flourish Foster Care Closet & Support, we believe this story can change.

Our Transitional Living Program (TLP) and Housing Initiative aim to provide a stable, Christ-centered foundation for teens aging out of foster care—so they are not stepping into adulthood alone. Through structured life-skills education, intentional mentorship, and personalized case support, our vision is to guide each young adult toward independence with hope, dignity, and real opportunity.

We are developing a comprehensive curriculum and program framework—crafted with insight from foster alumni, volunteers, educators, and leaders with experience in youth residential care. The building we are in the process of acquiring in Summerville, Georgia, will serve as a launching place for this program: a hub for training, mentorship, community support, and preparation. While this facility will be central to our work, we still need a dedicated transitional living home for girls and another for boys aging out of care.

Mentorship is a cornerstone of our mission. Every young person needs consistent adults who walk beside them—teaching, encouraging, and modeling what healthy adulthood looks like. Flourish is committed to building a strong mentorship program that pairs teens with caring, trained adults who can provide guidance, accountability, and belonging during this critical season of life.

But we cannot do this without community partnership.
