Flourish Foster Closet Baby Blessing Boxes
One of the most requested projects among our board members is to begin making emergency kids for foster parents who receive babies and toddlers.  Kits that include essentials like appropriate sized pajama's, diapers, outfits, etc.  This is an easy project that the community can participate in and can be utilized quickly by foster parents.  If you'd like to know more about how you can help, keep reading...

Why are Blessing Boxes need?

Hi, Aimee here.  I wanted to share a bit of my experience with you about our first foster placement and how our community of friends and family wrapped our babies in love.

In November of 2015, we got the call that a newborn and her big brother needed a placement.  Our door swung open wide for these little ones.  We were wide eyed and in a bit of shock.  We went from a family of 5 to a family of 7 within a few days and we were NOT prepared for such little ones.  As much as we had prepared, we still felt like we had nothing.

Can you imagine being handed a 2 day old baby and a 18 month old toddler with not a diaper to fit them insight?

What do Blessing Boxes provide?

We were blessed beyond to have items show up on our doorstep that we needed.  Not all foster families have such a community around them.  Maybe they did not receive support from family and friends on their journey.  Maybe the live in a city or town removed from life long family members and friends because of a move.  Maybe this is the 13th child they have received over a course of years and people assume they have all they need.  Whatever the reason, the boxes are need.

In each box is a glimmer of hope.

A couple of days worth of diapers and wipes alone can take a burden off the shoulders of foster parents.  A brand new, clean bottle, sippy cup, and pacifiers are so helpful.  Sleepers and pajamas that are ready to wear make getting those late night baby deliveries settled much faster.

They provide assurance and a little peace in the midst of chaos.

What is the age range for a Blessing Box?

Each box is individualized to meet the age of the baby.  Newborn boxes will have appropriate items for a newborn, but a toddler box will look much different.  The ages range from Preemie/Newborn t0 age 3.

How to Make a Blessing Box?

Start with a 18qt plastic storage tote.  This will be big enough to add all the items in the list above.  A label will need to be added to the end of each tote that shows what size/gender is included in the box.   Simply gather the items from the list that fit the appropriate size/age of the child and add them to the box.   We also encourage our donors to add an encouraging note or prayer.

Where Do I Bring a Blessing Box?
