How We StartedIn 2017, out of a couple of garages, Alicia and Aimee were gathering clothing for foster families. They sorted and organized donations from the community and prayed about finding a more suitable location. In May of 2017, God showed us that this little organization that was growing was all His. We were given our first space for our Foster Closet in downtown Ringgold, GA.
It was a small space with dreams of expanding. We served 100's of families and children out of this tiny little place. It seemed to be a light in the darkness and brokenness that is the world of foster care. The community gave, and kept giving. In 2019, we found our little space was no longer suitable and we moved to a larger and current location in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. This new space was close to 5 times bigger than we had before. At the same time, we were also granted a new space in Ringgold again, just for teens. The Kids Closet is loaded with new and like new clothing, diapers, beds, and much more with a small play area for kids to play while parents or older kids shop for clothing for free. The Teen Closet has wall to wall clothing racks for a true shopping experience for teens as well as a roomy changing room, lounge area, and kitchen with treats. Teens not only receive clothing, but also receive personal hygiene products, accessories, and more. Flourish is always looking to expand and help communities open their own closet to help serve. Our Mission & FutureFlourish Foster Care Closet & Support is an all volunteer, tax-exempt 501c3, non-profit organization partnered with other local agencies to provide aid to the foster care community by supplying support services, clothing, and other items free of charge to children and families in foster care.
We believe that children in Foster Care should be able to live as normal a life as possible and experience love, respect, and a kinder side of life while in their Foster Care home environment. Our future goals include expanding our services to help train foster parents and families interested in respite care. We also are praying about wrap around services for families that also include the Church and community. Our dream is to open a hospitality home for children transitioning into foster care in order to lessen the trauma of the removal from families and traumatic situations. Ultimately, we would also love to run and host summer camps for foster children. |
